Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever. Your royal sceptre is a sceptre of equity; you love righteousness and hate wickedness.

 Psalm 45: 6 & 7

WOV 77

Hymn:

For the beauty of the earth

WOV 77, vs 1, 2 & 3

1. For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies:
Christ, our God, to Thee we raise
This our sacrifice of praise.

2.For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light:
Christ, our God, to Thee we raise
This our sacrifice of praise.

3.For the joy of ear and eye,
For the heart and mind's delight,
For the mystic harmony
Linking sense to sound and sight:
Christ, our God, to Thee we raise
This our sacrifice of praise.

Prayer of praise

Eternal God, source of all blessing,

Help me to worship You with all my heart and mind and strength;

For You alone are God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for ever and ever, amen.

Holy God, to You alone belongs glory, honour and praise.

We join with the hosts of heaven as we worship You.

You alone are worthy of adoration from every mouth,

and every tongue shall sing your praise.

You create the earth by Your power;

You save all humanity in Your mercy

and renew it through Your grace.

To You, loving God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Be all glory, honour and praise now and for ever. Amen.

Confession

Lord God, our Creator and our Redeemer,

this is Your world and we are Your people:

come among us and save us.

Lord, we have seen Your beauty in so many ways,

but we have turned away and closed our eyes to Your goodness.

Lord, we have seen the pain in Your world, the hungry, the poor, and the oppressed,

but we have ignored and passed them by in our selfishness.

Lord, You have honoured us with freedom of choice between right and wrong,

but we have often embraced the darker side of life;

Lord, we have heard Your call so many times,

but we have run away and hidden from Your presence

Lord, we have felt Your touch in so many gentle encounters,

but we have shrugged You off; we have shut out Your love;

And still You have not rejected us.

You have given Yourself for us,

You have remained faithful,

You have continued to care.

We praise You and thank You for this eternal, immeasurable love, and we turn back to You with open hearts.

Forgive us for denying You.

Change our hearts, of God, that we may forever walk in Your ways.

In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Praise Song:

Change my heart, O God

SOF 58

Change my heart, O God, make it ever true,

Change my heart, O God, may I be like you.

You are the potter, I am the clay,

Mould me and make me, this is what I pray.

Change my heart, O God, make it ever true,

Change my heart, O God, may I be like You.

Homily - Rev Peter Witbooi

WOV - 476

Hymn: O for a heart to praise my God

WOV 476, vs 1,3 & 4

1 O for a heart to praise my God,
a heart from sin set free,
a heart that always feels Thy blood
so freely shed for me:

3 A humble, lowly, contrite heart,
believing, true, and clean,
which neither life nor death can part
from him that dwells within:

4 A heart in every thought renewed,
and full of love divine,
perfect, and right, and pure, and good,
a copy, Lord, of Thine.

Affirmation of Faith:

God is at work in our world through His Spirit. He is at work in His Church that has witnessed to Him throughout the ages. He calls us to proclaim the Lordship of Christ to all the world.

We believe and trust in God the Father who created the universe.

We believe and trust in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who has redeemed the World.

We believe in the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God.

Amen.

Prayer for Africa

Prayers:

God bless Africa.  Guard our children.

 Guide our leaders and give us peace,

for Jesus Christ’s sake.

Almighty, all-merciful God, through Christ Jesus you have taught us to love one another, to love our neighbours as ourselves, and even to love our enemies.

Hear now our prayers for our land:

Wherever there is hatred and evil, hopelessness, regret and guilt, bring Your mercy and love.

Wherever there is lawlessness, violence, corruption and oppression, bring justice, peace, and equity.

Wherever there is death, grief and loss, bring the security and comfort of Your presence.

Hear our prayers as we remember the many in our communities who are alone, neglected, abused and unloved; the homeless in our streets, those living in child-headed households, the frail elderly;

We remember those who are sick, anxious or weak; those suffering from covid-19 infections or other dread diseases; those fighting addiction;

We remember with thanks those who lovingly give themselves to serve, protect, comfort and heal others;

We remember the ones that we hold in our hearts, our families and friends, and all with whom we share Your love;

We remember with grateful thanks all that you have done for us, O God, and we remember also your call to live out what we pray in our daily lives.

And so we commit ourselves again to the service of Your people in our communities.

Hear our prayer as we ask it in the name of our saviour, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

WOV 486

Hymn:

O Thou who camest from above

WOV 486, v 1, 3 & 4

1. O thou who camest from above
the pure celestial fire to impart,
kindle a flame of sacred love
on the mean altar of my heart.

2. Jesus, confirm my heart's desire
to work, and speak, and think for thee;
still let me guard the holy fire,
and still stir up thy gift in me.

3. Ready for all thy perfect will,
my acts of faith and love repeat,
till death thy endless mercies seal,
and make the sacrifice complete.

Now unto Him

Now unto Him who is able to keep,

Able to keep you from falling,

And present you faultless

Before the presence of His glory

With exceeding joy.

To the only wise God, our Saviour,

Be glory and majesty, dominion and power,

Both now and forever.  Amen.
