And I pray that you … may … grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge.

Ephesians 3: 17 – 19

WOV 367

Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah

WOV 478

1 Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou are mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand.
bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me now and evermore,
feed me now and evermore.

2 Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the living waters flow.
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
be thou still my strength and shield,
be thou still my strength and shield.

3 When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside.
death of death, and hell's destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side.
songs and praises, songs and praises
I will ever give to thee,
I will ever give to thee.

Prayer of praise

Eternal God, Creator of the universe, there is no God but you.

Great and wonderful are your works, wondrous are your ways.

Thank you for the many splendoured variety of your creation.

Forgive our violation of your creation.

Forgive our violence toward each other.

We stand in awe and gratitude for your persistent love for each and all of your children.

Eternal God, Creator of the universe, there is no God but you.

You are our fortress,

Our Defender, Protector from the storm,

The One in whom we take refuge.

You are our foundation,

Our solid rock in whom our confidence rests.

Eternal God, Creator of the universe, there is no God but you.

You are Justice,

And Love.

Eternal God, Creator of the universe, there is no God but you.

Merciful God, you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you. We humbly confess our sins and ask your mercy.

We have not loved you with a pure heart, nor have we loved our neighbour as ourselves. We have not done justice, loved kindness, or walked humbly with you, our God. We often turn away from others in need, wrapped in our own concerns. We often ignore evil, hatred, warfare, and greed. Forgive us for the arrogance that leads to moral blindness, for desires for vengeance and retaliation, and for putting our own interests before that of others. Help us to renounce all forms of violence: prejudice, unfair allegations, intolerance, and injury.

Have mercy on us, O God, in your loving-kindness.

Make us channels of your peace, bearers of healing. Give us today the strength and courage to transform the compassion of our hearts into acts of peace, mercy, and justice.

Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Do not cast us from your presence, or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and sustain us with your bountiful Spirit. Amen.

Praise Song:

Just as I am

SOF 316

1 Just as I am, without one plea,
but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bid'st me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come.

6 Just as I am, Thy love unknown
Has broken every barrier down;
Now to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come,

7 Just as I am, of that free love

the breadth, length, depth, and height to prove,

Here for a season, then above,

O Lamb of God, I come.

Souls of Men

WOV 72

1 Souls of men, why do you scatter
Like a crowd of frightened sheep?
Foolish hearts, why do you wander
from a love so true and deep?

2 There’s a wideness in God’s mercy,
like the wideness of the sea.
And forgiveness in his justice,
sealed for us on Calvary.

5 But we make his love too narrow
by false limits of our own,
and we magnify his strictness
with a zeal he will not own.

6 If our love were but more simple,
we should take him at his word,
and our lives would be illumined
by the goodness of our Lord.

We believe and trust in God the Father who created the universe.
We believe and trust in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who has redeemed the World.
We believe in the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God.

Prayer for Africa

God bless Africa.  Guard our children.

Guide our leaders and give us peace,

for Jesus Christ’s sake.

God of all comfort, our very present help in trouble, at this time when our country is riven by both violent unrest and the covid pandemic, let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, so that we may not be overcome with evil but overcome evil with good.

To everyone in distress, grant mercy and relief. Give us strength of purpose and concern for others, that we may create communities where Your will may be done.

For those who seek to harm others, Loving God, soften their hearts and steady their minds. May hate be replaced with love, violence with peace and darkness with Your light.

Grant to all persons, and especially to our leaders, attributes of the strong: mutual respect in words and deed, restraint in the exercise of power, and the will for peace with justice for all.

We claim Your promises of wholeness as we pray for those who are ill in body, mind or soul, and long for Your healing touch. Make the weak strong, the sick healthy, the broken whole, and sustain those who strive to heal and care for others.

Almighty and everlasting God, You are strength to those who suffer and comfort to those who grieve. Surround us all with a sense of Your present love, and hold us in faith. Through Jesus Christ who was dead, but lives and rules this world with You. Amen.

The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

May the peace of God which transcends all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  Amen

Eternal Father, Strong to Save

WOV 74

1 Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm has bound the restless wave,
Who bids the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

3 O Holy Spirit, who did brood
Upon the waters dark and rude,
And bid their angry tumult cease,
And give for wild confusion, peace;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

4 O Trinity of love and power,
Our people shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire, and foe,
Guard them wherever they may go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Now unto Him

Now unto Him who is able to keep,

Able to keep you from falling,

And present you faultless

Before the presence of His glory

With exceeding joy.

To the only wise God, our Saviour,

Be glory and majesty, dominion and power,

Both now and forever.  Amen.
