“Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
Ps 51:12

WOV 439

Hymn: Hallelujah! Sing to Jesus

WOV 439

1 Hallelujah! sing to Jesus,
  his the sceptre, his the throne;
  hallelujah! his the triumph,
  his the victory alone;
  hark, the songs of peaceful Sion
  thunder like a mighty flood:
  ‘Jesus out of every nation
  has redeemed us by his blood.”

3 Hallelujah! bread of heaven,
  and on earth our food, our stay;
  hallelujah! here the sinful
  flee to you from day to day:
  intercessor, friend of sinners,
  earth’s redeemer, plead for me.
  where the songs of all the sinless
  sweep across the crystal sea.

Prayer of praise

This is the place and this is the time, here and now, God waits to break into our        experience. To change our minds, to change our feelings, to change our ways.

  To help us see the world and the whole of life in a new light. To give us hope, joy and certainty for the future.

This is the place and this is the time. Here and now let us praise God.

We celebrate our human life, our world and the universe in which we live.

We pray for joy, peace and love for ourselves and for every human being.

O God, we praise You for Your power at work within us, changing our attitudes, giving us hope and courage. Making us certain of forgiveness; giving us the strength to go on with  confidence.

  We praise You for the human life lived triumphantly by Jesus. For giving Himself on the cross. Where His love was victorious, even where the world had done its worst.

Lord we worship and adore You.

Here and everywhere, now and forever. Amen.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Let us confess our sins in silence ….

Lord forgive us for where we have been so preoccupied with our own concerns that we have failed to really listen to others.

Where we have failed to love others as You have loved us.

Where we could have helped someone in need but failed to do so.

Lord, here in church we speak about having faith and trust in You, but we often live in anxiety.

Lord forgive us. Help us to have the courage of our convictions, so that what we do may be the evidence of what we say. Through the grace of Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Praise Song:

Create in me a clean heart, O God

SOF 76

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

And renew a right spirit in me.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

And renew a right spirit in me.

Wash me, cleanse me, purify me,

Make my heart as white as snow.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

And renew a right spirit in me.

Homily - Rev Peter Witbooi

WOV 138

And can it be

WOV 138

1 And can it be that I should gain
an interest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died he for me, who caused his pain-
for me who him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
that thou, my God, shouldst die for me!

4 Long my imprisoned spirit lay
fast bound in sin and nature’s night:
thine eye diffused a quickening ray-
I woke; the dungeon flamed with light!
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

5 No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in him, is mine!
Alive in him, my living Head,
and clothed in righteousness divine,
bold I approach the eternal throne,
and claim the crown, through Christ my own.

We believe and trust in God the Father who created the universe.
We believe and trust in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who has redeemed the World.
We believe in the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God.

Prayer for Africa

God bless Africa.  Guard our children.

 Guide our leaders and give us peace,

for Jesus Christ’s sake.

Worry and stress are not hard for us, God,
we do them without thinking.
There is always the potential of threat
to our security,
our comfort,
our health,
our relationships,
our lives,
and we foolishly think that we could silence the fear
if we just had enough money,
enough insurance,
enough toys,
enough stored away for a rainy day.
It’s never enough, though;
the voice of our fear will not be dismissed so easily.

But, in the small, silent places within us is another voice;
one that beckons us into the foolishness of faith,
that points our gaze to the birds and the flowers,
that, in unguarded moments, lets our muscles relax,
and our hearts lean into loved ones;
In unexpected whispers we hear it,
calling us to remember your promises,
your grace,
your faithfulness;
And, suddenly, we discover
that it is enough.

The Church’s one foundation

WOV 385

1  The church’s one foundation
    is Jesus Christ her Lord:
    she is his new creation
    by water and the word;
    from heaven he came and sort her
    to be his holy bride;
    with his own blood he bought her,
    and for her life he died.

2  Elect from every nation
    yet one o’er all the earth,
    her charter of salvation
    one Lord, on faith, one birth:
    one holy name she blesses,
    partakes one holy food,
    and to one hope she presses
    with every grace endued.

5  Yet she on earth hath union
    with God the Three in One,
    and mystic sweet communion
    with those whose rest is won.
    O happy ones and holy!
    Lord, give us grace that we,
    like them, the meek and lowly,
    on high may dwell with thee.

Now unto Him

Now unto Him who is able to keep,

Able to keep you from falling,

And present you faultless

Before the presence of His glory

With exceeding joy.

To the only wise God, our Saviour,

Be glory and majesty, dominion and power,

Both now and forever.  Amen.
