Jesus says, “Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of Me.  This is the bread that came down from heaven.”

 John 7 : 57 – 58a.

WOV 455

Hymn: Be Thou my vision

WOV 455

1 Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,

Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art

Thou my best thought, by day or by night,

Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

2 Be Thou my wisdom, be Thou my true word;

I ever with Thee, Thou with me Lord;

Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;

Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

4 Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,

Thou mine inheritance, now and always:

Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,

High king of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

Call to Worship and Praise

This is the place and this is the time, here and now, God waits to break into our experience, to change our minds, to change our feelings and to change our ways.  We pray for joy, peace and love for ourselves and for every human being.

Here and now, let us praise God.

O God, we praise You for Your power at work within us, changing our attitudes, giving us hope and courage to follow Your will.

We praise You for the human life lived triumphantly by Jesus, for His giving of Himself on the cross.  There His love was victorious, even where the world had done its worst.

We thank you for the presence and work of the Holy Spirit, for sanctifying Your family, the Church and for spreading the gospel throughout the world,

Lord Jesus Christ, receive our Praise and Thanksgiving.

Amen.

Confession

In a moment of silence let us confess our sins.

Lord forgive us for where we have been so preoccupied with our own concerns that we fail to really listen to others.  Lord forgive us.

Where we have failed to love others as You have loved us.  Lord forgive us.

Where we could have helped someone in need but failed to do so.  Lord forgive us.

Where we have often lived in anxiety, especially now with the pandemic, and have not had faith and trust in You.  Lord forgive us.

We are often all talk, just empty words and have lacked the deeds which could make the words true.  Lord forgive us.

Lord God, help us to have the courage of our convictions, so that we may be the evidence of what we say

Lord Jesus Christ, lamb of God, You have promised that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just and will forgive our sins.

Amen.  Thanks be to God.

The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Homily - Rev Peter Witbooi

Hymn:

I am the bread of life

SOF 200

1 I am the bread of life,

He who comes to Me shall not hunger,

He who believes in Me shall not thirst.

No one can come to Me

Unless the Father draw him,

Chorus :

And I will raise Him up,

And I will raise Him up,

And I will raise Him up on the last day.

2 The bread that I give

Is my flesh for the life of the world,

And he who eats this bread,

He shall live forever,

He shall live forever.

3. Unless you eat

Of the flesh of the Son of man

And drink of His blood,

And drink of His blood,

You shall not have life within you.

God is at work in our world through His Spirit.  He is at work in His Church that has witnessed to Him throughout the ages.  He calls us to proclaim the Lordship of Christ to all the world.

We believe and trust in God the Father who created the universe.
We believe and trust in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who has redeemed the World.
We believe in the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God.
Amen.

Prayer for Africa

Prayers:

God bless Africa.  Guard our children.

Guide our leaders and give us peace,

for Jesus Christ’s sake.

Let us pray for the Church throughout the world and here in our own country, that Your people may have faith and trust in You.  May we through the lives we lead show others that we believe in You.  Inspire and guide all ministers of faith, especially Rev Peter and Prof Masango.

We pray for wisdom and discernment from You Lord, in all that we do.

All powerful Lord we pray for all leaders of nations, industry, business and agriculture that they may seek to serve with integrity, honesty and all seek for peace and justice.

Loving Lord Jesus, we pray for the powerless, the unemployed, victims of war and violence and those who are homeless and hungry.  Show us Lord how we can be of assistance.

Compassionate Lord Jesus, we pray for all who are sick, especially those who are infected and affected by the covid virus.  We pray for those who are anxious and lonely, depressed and all those who are in need of our prayers.

We remember those who have died.  Father we commend them into Your eternal glory.

In these prayers we honour and worship our Father God.  We proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord.  We acknowledge the power of the Holy Spirit.

We go in peace to love and serve You in the world, giving thanks for all You will accomplish in and through us.

  Amen.

Hymn:

God of grace and God of glory

WOV 543

1 God of grace and God of glory,

On Thy people pour Thy power;

Now fulfill Thy Church’s story,

Bring her bud to glorious flower.

Grant us wisdom,

Grant us courage,

For the facing of this hour.

2 Lo, the hosts of evil round us

Scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways.

Fears and doubts too long have bound us;

Free our hearts to work and praise.

Grant us wisdom,

Grant us courage,

For the living of these days.

4 Set our feet on lofty places;

Gird our lives that they may be

Armoured with all Christlike graces

In the fight to set men free.

Grant us wisdom,

Grant us courage,

That we fail not man nor Thee.

Now unto Him

Now unto Him who is able to keep,

Able to keep you from falling,

And present you faultless

Before the presence of His glory

With exceeding joy.

To the only wise God, our Saviour,

Be glory and majesty, dominion and power,

Both now and forever.  Amen.
