Blessed are those whose strength is in You. Psalm 84: 5
Hymn: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation;
O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation;
all ye who hear,
brothers and sisters draw near,
praise him in glad adoration.
3 Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
surely his goodness and mercy here daily attend thee:
what the Almighty can do
who with his love doth befriend thee.
5 Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
all that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him!
let the amen
sound from His people again:
gladly for ay we adore him.
PRAYER OF PRAISE
Awesome One, creator of all,
the light of your glory
fills the heavens,
the breath of your Spirit
blows through the skies,
stars above stand silent witness
to the power of our God.
By your word all things were made.
By your breath all things are sustained.
By your hand we were moulded
as a potter caresses the clay,
formed from earthly dust
into an image of the divine.
Your immeasurable love
secured the redemption of the world
by our Lord Jesus Christ,
opening for us the means of grace
and the hope of glory.
By your grace we stand here,
In your name we worship,
At your feet we bow;
Please accept this our sacrifice of praise.
God our Father, we come to You in sorrow for our sins.
For turning away from You, and ignoring Your will for our lives;
Father, forgive us:
For behaving just as we wish, without thinking of You;
Father, forgive us:
For failing You by what we do, and think and say;
Father, forgive us:
For letting ourselves be drawn away from You by temptations in the world about us;
Father, forgive us:
For living as if we were ashamed to belong to Your Son;
Father, forgive us, save us and help us.
Restore us for the sake of your Son,
and bring us to the joy of walking in the light of Your love,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Praise Song: Amazing Grace
1. Amazing grace! how sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me;
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind but now I see.
2. ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear,
the hour I first believed!
Homily - Rev Peter Witbooi
Love divine, all love excelling
1 Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of heaven, to earth come down,
Fix in us They humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown:
Jesu, thou art all compassion,
pure unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation,
enter every trembling heart.
2 Come, almighty to deliver,
let us all thy life receive;
suddenly return, and never,
Never more thy temples leave:
thee we would be always blessing,
serve thee as thy hosts above,
pray, and praise thee, without ceasing,
glory in thy perfect love.
3 Finish then thy new creation,
pure and spotless let us be,
let us see thy great salvation,
perfectly restored in thee:
changed from glory into glory,
til in heaven we take our place,
til we cast our crowns before thee,
lost in wonder, love and praise.
Affirmation of Faith:
God is at work in our world through His Spirit. He is at work in His Church that has witnessed to Him throughout the ages. He calls us to proclaim the Lordship of Christ to all the world.
We believe and trust in God the Father who created the universe.
We believe and trust in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who has redeemed the World.
We believe in the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God.
God bless Africa. Guard our children.
Guide our leaders and give us peace,
for Jesus Christ’s sake.
Loving God, You are the author and sustainer of our lives. You know the anguish of the sorrowful, You are attentive to the prayers of the brokenhearted. Hear Your people who cry out to You in their need; strengthen their hope in Your lasting goodness.
Be near to all those who have been touched by any trouble: those who have been hurt, lost their loved ones or lost their sense of security. Be for them a steady comfort and safe resting place.
We pray today for those who are ill in body, mind or soul; in Your mercy give relief from pain and weakness; comfort them with a sense of your presence. We pray for those in despair and darkness, that they may find the hope and light of Christ.
We pray today for God’s creation; that the peoples of the earth may meet their responsibility to care; for productivity for our earth, for fruitful harvests. We lift before You those who live in poverty; those who do not have the security of a job; those who suffer from cold and hunger.
Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you that in a world of despair, You are our hope. In a world of darkness, You are our light. In a world of sorrow, You are our joy.
Help us to share the hope of our hearts with others. Let us walk with Your feet. Let us touch with Your hands. Let Your voice speak through us. May Your kingdom come; Your will be done; in the name of Christ, our redeemer.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah
1 Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand:
bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me now and evermore,
feed me now and evermore.
2 Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the living waters flow;
let the fiery, cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through:
strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
be thou still my strength and shield,
be thou still my strength and shield.
3 When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death, and hell's destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side:
songs and praises, songs and praises
I will ever give to thee,
I will ever give to thee.
Now unto Him who is able to keep,
Able to keep you from falling,
And present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory
With exceeding joy.
To the only wise God, our Saviour,
Be glory and majesty, dominion and power,
Both now and forever. Amen.
