How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  1 John 3: 2

This reading starts with the statement, “Everyone who believes that Jesus is The Christ, is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father, loves His Child as well.”  Christ was foretold, through the prophets in the Old Testament, to be the One who would be the King overall.  So, in fact, we should speak of Jesus as The Christ as in the above reading.  Furthermore, we believe He is the Son of our Father God and after His resurrection and ascension He became equal to God in every way.  As God’s children we are His dependents.  As dependent children we usually do not spend time worrying about what we will eat, whether we have clothes to wear or have shelter to protect us.  So it is with our heavenly Father, He will provide His Holy Spirit, who will see to all our needs, particularly, those which we need to carry out our Lord’s work here on earth.

How do we know what God’s love is?  “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.” 1 John 3 : 16 a.  Because we are told that God loves us as His children and will provide for us, we can lay all our worries and burdens on Him and He will provide whatever support we need, but, particularly, that which God knows we need and in His own time.  Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Luke 11: 9.  We can show our love for God by obeying Jesus’ commands, by honoring Him and in continuing His work here on earth by sharing His love and spreading His gospel through the way we live our lives.  We need to learn more about our Lord, through studying His Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to interpret Jesus’ teachings for us.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we praise and worship You.  We thank You for Your Holy Spirit who dwells within us, who reveals You to us, who directs our lives, empowers us to do Your work and who interprets Your teachings and Your commands for us . May our lives bring glory to Your Name.  Amen
