Devotion 02 September 2026

Shout with joy to God, all the earth!  Sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious!   Psalm 66: 1-7

READING: Psalm 66: 1-7

This Psalm like many others, reminds us to worship God for what he has done for us and from what dangers and difficulties He has brought us through and enabled us to survive.  The Israelites would dance and sing as they remembered God’s dramatic rescues that had happened in their past.  What more dramatic rescue than their escape from the Egyptians on dry land through the Red sea.  Wow!  No sooner were they all through than the water of the sea returned to cover where they had just gone and all the Egyptian army drowned.  The Israelites survived!  They were not destroyed!  They survived because God was with them and in control of the situation.  He restored their hope for a future.

God through Jesus is WITH us today as well and rescues us from difficult and tough times and gives us eternal hope of salvation.  This should lead us into joyful praise and thanksgiving.  There is healing and a balm for our souls when we express our praise and worship of our Loving God.  This worship and joyful singing helps us to remember the difficult times, through which we have survived.

Over the years, and still today, there has been much discussion about our form of worship, that we have often forgotten the true function of worship.  We should be worshipping a faithful and loving God, for His presence in our lives, for healing and for hope in the future, no matter in what form.

Prayer

Almighty and loving God, we worship and praise you for Your presence with us in all situations, for your rescuing and healing, for Your love and caring.  Help us to worship you in our own quiet space and in communion with our fellow Christian brothers and sisters, so that You may be praised above all else. Amen
