Devotion 04 September 2026

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”  John 14: 6

READING: Colossians 2: 9-12, 16-19

Jesus the Christ is the fullness of the Godhead. He is the full and complete revelation of God to humanity.  All that God is, Jesus Christ is.  The very nature of God and all the characteristics and power and love that belong to God, belong also to Jesus.  But Jesus is also human, the very incarnation of God.  He loved and cared for those in need, he taught those He met who all about God. Then He suffered and was crucified and died so that we might be saved from our sinful lives.  He conquered death and rose again in glory.

Paul describes the supremacy of Jesus.  He is the Head of the Church.  Paul describes how we humans can become bound down by rules, laws, and ceremonies, which are man-made, and can be distracted from  the One to whom these all point and actually miss the very person of Jesus Christ.  We need to be praising and exalting the Head of the Church, Jesus the Christ.

To grow as Christians, we need to hold onto our love for Jesus and with our Jesus eyes to study His Word, the Bible.  Jesus didn’t give us the Bible to fill our heads with knowledge but to teach us about Himself so that we might grow in love and personally become more like Him.  Becoming Christians means joining together with our fellow Christians and trying, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to join Jesus in a living way, as a member of His Body and each playing our parts of that Body as appointed by God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, God of love, we remember that Jesus died and rose again to make all things new.  Through His offering for us all, we offer our whole live to You in thanks and praise.  Amen
