As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you.  If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.  1 John 2: 24

READING: SOF 599 verse 1

“When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way!  While we do His good will He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey.”

We are extremely fortunate that the Word of God was transcribed from very early times when God spoke through His prophets starting with Moses, during the Old Testament times.  Jesus Words and Ministry were recorded by His disciples, as were their letters to the developing Churches.  This was all recorded for us in the Bible as we know it today.  There are a variety of translations in English as well as it has been translated into most of the modern-day languages.

The Bible is one of the main ways we can learn about God and His Son, Jesus’ teaching.  We can learn about the incredible and amazing work of God as he established His People Israel.  In Exodus we read of the crossing of the Red Sea on dry ground by the Israelites as they fled from the Egyptians and later travelled through the desert.   The Ten Commandments were given to Moses as a direction for the lives of the Israelites.  We read of the amazing songs of praise in the Psalms.  We read how God called the Prophets to do His work to change, to correct and direct His chosen people.  In the New Testament we are able to read about Jesus’ revelation of His Father God, His teaching and healing ministry as recorded in the Gospels.  These Gospels form the foundation of our Christian belief in God and the foundation of the Church, which is Christ’s Body.

We should never grow tired of immersing ourselves in Word of God as we read and understand It with the help of the indwelling Holy Spirit.  The Lord speaks to us through His Word and leads us into prayerful conversation with Him and a deeper relationship with Him.  We need to let the Word abide in us as we absorb His teaching.  Be at home with the Word and let the Word be at home in your life as we apply it to every area of our lives.

Prayer

Lord Jesus as we let Your Word abide in us, may we come to a deeper knowledge of Your teaching and how it can apply to our lives.  May we come to know You more closely and may our lives reflect Your teaching and bring glory to Your Name.  Amen
