READING: Matthew 11: 28-30
During Lent as we spend more time with the Lord we learn of the many ways that God through Jesus, calls us to be His children. In the Isaiah reading God invites Isaiah to come to Him so that he is may be part of the promise of a new covenant which we now have experienced through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son Jesus the Christ. The Matthew reading comes within a passage where Jesus is praying to His Father and thanking Him that He has revealed things about His Godhead to little children and not to the wise and learned. Then He calls those around Him and all future converts to Christianity, “Come to Me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give You rest.” (verse 28) This is an amazing invitation from Jesus to ordinary people like you and me. There is no cost involved but we will be satisfied and comforted.
“It is a thing most wonderful, almost too wonderful to be, that God’s own Son should come from heaven and die to save a child like me. And yet I know that it is true; He chose a poor and humble lot, and toiled and suffered pain and died for love of those who loved Him not.” (WOV 171) “I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry; all who dwell in dark and sin My hand will save. I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. I will speak My Word to them. Whom shall I send? (our response) Here I am Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard You in the night. I will go, Lord, if You lead me; I will hold Your people in my heart.” (SOF 830)
Jesus then says in Matthew : 28 – 29, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is Light.” What an amazing invitation and promise! This is an invitation from our Lord Jesus Christ to us simple folk here on earth!
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, we praise and thank you for Your amazing invitations to us to ease our burdens and worries and difficulties. Help us to respond and draw close to You. We glorify Your holy Name. Amen
