Before Abraham Was, I Am - John 9:58
READING: John 8:48-59
Abraham was important because he was the he was the one to whom God first extended His covenant.”
In Jesus' time, Abraham’s Abraham’s offspring were everywhere, demanding recognition as heirs of this covenant.” But while focussing on being sons and daughters of Abraham, they were missing what was right in front of them: Jesus said to them, ‘I assure you: Before Abraham was, I am.’
Indeed Jesus was before Abraham in two ways:
First, as Creator, Christ is the firstborn over all creation, and without Him nothing would have been made
He has authority over everything. And as His creation, We owe Him our whole lives—we owe Him everything.
Second, Christ is before Abraham because He is the Messiah. He was anointed to save us from our sins. This is the same gospel truth that overjoyed father Abraham—“he saw it and rejoiced” . Even now, Jesus performs His role as perfect mediator before God’s throne, on our behalf.
As sinful human beings, No amount of own good deeds can ever earn our own salvation to live up to God's standard of perfection. What a wonderful gift then that Salvation comes from the Lord.
Jesus is greater than Abraham both because He is before him, and because He is the very Hope in which Abraham put his faith. He has proclaimed Himself to us, saying, “I Am!” that we might have fellowship in Him, that our joy may be complete . Praise the LORD!

Prayer
Father we thank you for your amazing gift of Salvation through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Thank you Lord Jesus for your love. You are Emmanuel, our God who is always with us.
Amen
