Daily Devotion 01 December 2025

Know that the Lord IS God.  It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.  Psalm 100: 3

READING: Isaiah 11 : 1 – 4a

This week is the beginning of Advent as we prepare ourselves for the coming of the baby Jesus and this is a time when we should  renew our acknowledgement that this baby Jesus is the Son of God born on earth to bring a new chapter in the revelation of God to His people – to all of us, through the ages.  In the reading for today we are shown the lineage of Jesus, how He will rule, and how He will look on all people, including the poor and disadvantaged.   He will bring salvation of sin to all His people.

Jesus was born as a descendent of Jesse who was the father of King David.  The Spirit of God will rest upon Him, that is, He is from God and is God.  He will interact with people, with the Spirit of wisdom, of understanding and knowledge.  He will fear and acknowledge that God is His Father, who will guide and lead Him in His ministry and interaction with God’s people.  When we read about the life of Jesus as we find in the Holy Scriptures, Jesus did not react just by what He saw or by what He heard, but he interacted with the needy and the poor and the prisoners with righteousness and justice according to what each individual actually needed, both physically and spiritually.   People would learn to acknowledge and fear, or hold in awe, the Son of man and the Son of God.

In Psalm 100 we read that we should come before our Lord with thanksgiving and praise, and with joyful songs, because He is “good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.”

Prayer

Lord Jesus as we look forward to the celebration of Your birth here on earth, we bring You our praise and thanksgiving for all you have taught us and continue to teach us, for Your faithfulness to us and Your continued love for us.  We praise Your Holy Name.  Amen
