Daily Devotion 10 December 2025

The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4: 7

The birth of Jesus was foretold through Joseph who was engaged to Mary.  Because Joseph was a moral man, when he discovered Mary was pregnant.  he planned to break off their engagement.  But an angel of the Lord appeared to him and told him that the baby had been conceived through the Holy Spirit.  He told him that the baby would be a son and he was to name Him, Jesus, who would save His people from their sins.  The angel said Joseph must take Mary into his home and marry her.  This passage referred to another prophesy of Isaiah found in Isaiah 7 : 14, “The Lord Himself will give you a sign : The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call Him ‘Immanuel’ – which means God with us!”   Joseph woke from his dream and he took Mary to be his wife.  He had no intercourse with her until after Baby Jesus was born.

We read in Luke’s Gospel 2 : 1 – 7 how Joseph and Mary travelled to Bethlehem in Galilee, the town of David, because Joseph belonged to the house of David.  There was a census called by Quirinius, governor of Syria,  fulfilling the prophesy of Micah 5 : 2 – 5a that a ruler over Israel will be born which had been prophesied from times of old and foretold to Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist as found in Luke 1 : 11 – 15.

Over the last few devotions, we have looked at just a few of the prophesies predicting the Birth of John and his cousin Jesus.  God the Father, showed His ultimate love for us by sending His Son, Jesus to be born on earth!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we greet Your coming with wonder.  We do not know how it can be that the Almighty God could be born on this earth as a tiny baby, born in a stable, in Bethlehem.  We greet You with joy and praise to know that it this true.  Accept our heartfelt praise and gratitude as we experience the Word made flesh in a little child, our Saviour. Amen
