I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel, --- being confident – that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” Philippians 1: 5-6
READING: Philippians 1: 9-11
In these passages Paul is speaking of the hope of the ongoing power of Jesus working in the Philippians’ lives and our lives, building them and us, in their faith, in their right relationship through Christ with God, in their knowledge of God’s great love for them. Through His death and resurrection from the dead, He forgave their sins. As Christians today we can also hold to these promises.
God holds us in His divine love, which flows through us to others, hence the spreading of that love in ever growing circles. Peter wrote, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into the living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1 : 3.
And “Through Him (Jesus), you believed in God, who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him, and so your faith and hope are in God.” 1 Peter 1 : 21. We are alive today, which is a precious gift from God’s ongoing love in our lives. In Psalm 119 : 114, we read, “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in Your Word.” The small remnant of Israelites held onto the hope that God would fulfill His covenant of a Messiah as foretold by the prophets. Their faith and prayers were fulfilled by the coming of Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem and a descendent of David.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, You sent Your only Son, Jesus, to save us from our sins and to show us Your great love. Grant that His Spirit may be born anew in our hearts and may we joyfully welcome Him to reign over us and through us. Amen
