Daily Devotion 19 January 2026

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.  Matthew 5: 16

READING: Isaiah 49: 3-6 + 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4

When the Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts, He empowers us to be the LIGHT of the world, revealing Jesus’ Light through us and His great love and mercy in our lives.  We radiate light in a world of darkness, dominated by sin and under satan’s power. There is a great deal of spiritual ignorance and immorality, people are often spiritually lost and who are following their own desires and not God’s.  By our walking and by our actions and words we reveal through our lives that we are under Jesus’ control and His grace in forgiving our sins and His love.  Christ is the Light of the world and shines through us when we believe in Him, as the Christ, and when we are obedient to His Word.  This happens when His Holy Spirit lives in our hearts.  We read in 2 Corinthians 1 : 4, “ we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”  We are unable to share Jesus’ comfort and love if we do not accept His comfort and love for ourselves.  In 2 Corinthians 1 : 3 we read, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.”    Isaiah records further what the Lord has revealed to him in Isaiah 49 : 3 – 4, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will display my splendour.”  In verse 4b he says, “Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand, and my reward is with my God.”  In verse 6b the Lord says, “I will make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring My salvation to the ends of the earth.”  This was also a promise God made to Paul.

Holy Spirit, thank you for shining the light of Jesus through our lives, so that others may witness Your great love and turn to You. Amen
