Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is anyone sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him ----- in the name of the Lord. James 5: 13-14
READING: Matthew 6: 11-12 + Luke 11: 3-4 + James 5: 15-16
In this section of the Lord’s Prayer we ask God to supply all that we need, both spiritually and physically in order to live our lives according to God’s wishes. Jesus says He is the “Bread of life” (John 6 : 51) and that we do not live by bread alone (Deuteronomy 8 : 3). Paul reaffirms this, “My God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches.” (Philippians 4 : 19). Jesus taught us that the Father feeds the birds and asks us, “Are you not much more valuable than they are?” (Matthew 6 : 7). This challenges our faith to rely on and trust Him to provide all that we need!
In Matthew vs.12 we pray for forgiveness of our sins and we forgive others who sin against us. (James 5 : 16). The word trespasses or debts are also translated as sins or the wrongs we have done. God longs for us to be right with Him and to be with Him forever. This is why He sent Jesus to pay the price for our debts. The angel said to Joseph in a dream, “You shall call Him Jesus because he will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1 : 21) The vital point brought out in this prayer is that our relationship with God is integrally tied up with our relationships with other people. Until we have put things right with the child of God who we have offended, we cannot make it right with God. So, we ask for forgiveness --- as we have forgiven those who have wronged us.
Finally, we read in James 5 : 16b, “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

Prayer
“I will proclaim the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright, and just is He.” Praise the Lord! Amen
(Deuteronomy 32: 3-4 - A prayer of Moses)
