I will do whatever you ask in My Name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask anything in My Name, and I will do it.    John 14: 13-14

READING: Romans 8: 26-28

“Thank you for the miracles we are too blind to see and give us a new awareness of our many gifts from Thee, and help us to remember that the key to life and living is to make each prayer a prayer of thanks and every day a day of thanksgiving.” (Helen Steiner Rice)  We are called by God to speak to Him, to share our lives with Him and most importantly to thank Him and to praise Him for all He does and continues to do in our lives.  Jesus asks us to pray in His name, so that our Father God will be praised and glorified. The Bible tells us if we want to grow and develop our relationship with Him, we need to COMMUNICATE with Him in prayer.  Prayer is not just a shopping list of what we want, but a time of opening ourselves to God’s presence, to LISTENING to Him speaking to us.  We need to pray throughout our day, not just when we are in the mood to pray.  Our prayers should not be just about ourselves, but should include prayers for others, those in need, prayers for our leaders and our communities, those celebrating God working in their lives and just those who come to mind.  Someone may come to mind and that is a key that we ought to pray for them.  I have often thought about someone, made a telephone call, and found that they were having a difficult day.  God is telling us to pray for that person.

Praying is often not easy, particularly being silent and listening for God to speak to us.  Jesus promised us that His Holy Spirit will speak and intercede for us, using “groans that words cannot express, and He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit.”  Romans 8 : 26 – 27a.  This “Spirit of truth lives with us and in us.” John 14 : 17b.  We need to pray in Jesus’ name, focusing on Him and praising Him for His ability to deal with our difficulties and issues.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we come into Your presence, not to ask for many things, but to tell You how much we adore You and to thank You for Your living presence in our lives.  Help us to be silent in Your presence and to listen for Your voice.  Thank You for the Holy Spirit who interprets our prayers to You.  Amen
