The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. Psalm 65: 8
In this psalm, David describes God's power using examples from nature. Raging seas are one example of forces beyond human control. Yet the Lord, the Creator, has the power to make them calm. We read in Mark 4:35–41 the story of the disciples in the storm on the Sea of Galilea, when Jesus says to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
Scripture compares the rebellion of humanity to the chaos of a stormy ocean (Isaiah 17:12). Yet, before God, the terrifying rage of nations at war becomes as insignificant and vulnerable as tumbleweed blowing in the wind (Isaiah 17: 13). When God brings His peace, those nations will be still before God (Psalm 65:1).
Praise for the Lord is built into the mechanisms of nature - “Ever since the creation of the world God’s eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been seen and understood through the things God has made” (Romans 1:18–20); “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).
Proclaiming peace and God's greatness are thus natural responses to His goodness. And the emotion of deep joy is another natural response. The angel of the Lord, announcing the birth of Jesus said, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people … glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased" (Luke 2:10–14).
Jesus is the hope of all the nations - “For he himself is our peace” (Ephesians 2:13–17); “… the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all” (Acts 10:35–37).
That deep unshakeable joy and peace comes to us every morning when we sense God’s faithfulness and power as the sun rises.

Prayer
Almighty God, our Creator, thank you for the beauty of this world. Remind me every morning that I am greeted with a glimpse of your power. Help me to take time to slow down, to focus on the joy and the wonder of your creation. In Jesus’ name, Amen
