As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longs after You, You alone are my heart’s desire – and I long to worship You. (SOF 27: 1) based on Psalm 42: 1-2
READING: Psalm 42: 1-5
David begins this psalm by equating our desire to know God to a deer panting for water. We turn to our Lord for satisfaction and for safety. As the deer knows where to go to satisfy his thirst so too must we know how to find God. We need turn away from all the things which hinder our coming to God, such as other people’s opinions, our own thoughts, and bodily desires. The chorus of (SOF 27) describes how we should react if God has called us, “You alone are my strength, my shield, to You alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart’s desire – and I long to worship You.” Another hymn that speaks to me on how we can seek the Lord is (WOV 531), “When we walk with the Lord in the light of His WORD what a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey.” This hymn clearly says we need to seek God’s will and light and love by studying His Word in our Bibles. He has given us His commandments and Jesus summed them up as, “The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your strength. Love your neighbour as yourself.” (Mark 12 : 29b – 31a). David tells us in Psalm 42 : 5b, “Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour and my God.” We read in Psalm 95 : 6 – 7 how we should worship our Lord,“ Come let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.” This passage tells us how God takes care of us and how He loves us. So, we too can trust in our Lord because He loves and takes care of us as a Shepherd does. Not only that, but He knows and protects each one of us like shepherd will.

Prayer
You’re my Friend and You are my brother, even though You are a King. I love You more than any other, so much more than anything.
We praise You Lord Jesus. Amen
