No prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. ----but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 1: 20 + 21b
READING: 1 Peter 1: 16-19
It is important to take note that the prophets did not prophecy from their own intellectual understanding. They were given words by God Himself for His people. Sometimes the message they gave the people was harsh because they were not following God’s Laws and teaching. The messages from God were important instructions for the people to follow, both telling them the directions they should be taking and the possible dangers they would encounter. God also gave them hope that He would be with them and would guide them along the way. Many times, the message they had was encouraging and foretelling the future coming of the Christ who would reveal all things to them.
Peter was with James and John when they accompanied Jesus to the top of the mountain. There they witnessed Jesus being covered with a bright light, accompanied by Moses and Elijah. A bright cloud enveloped them and the voice of God spoke from the cloud saying that Jesus was His Son and that He was pleased with Him. God instructed them to listen to Jesus. In this passage from 2 Peter the three disciples witnessed the glory of God and heard His voice. So, their witness was from that which they had actually seen and heard firsthand, not something they had read about from centuries before.

Prayer
Lord God, You revealed Your glory to the three disciples. Light up our lives and reveal to us Your way and will that you wish us to follow. Help us to follow Your teaching in Your Word and reveal to us Your message, so that Your glory might shine through us and be witnessed by other. We pray this in Jesus Name. Amen
