Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6: 26
READING: Matthew 6: 25-34
This passage draws our attention to our faith in our daily lives for the provisions that we need. It questions how God provides for the birds we see and the beautiful flowers and grasses that grow around us. How much more will He provide for us. Let us consider the lovely wildflowers seen growing on the side of the road, here in South Africa, the lovely pink, and white cosmos flowers. I had the privilege while living in Austria of seeing the vast array of wildflowers springing up in Spring, in the fields around our town and the beautiful crocuses which sprouted up through the snow. It was a beautiful sight. God provides food and water for them and creates their beautiful colours. He said in our reading that they do not work or spin in order to develop their beauty. Through God’s love He provides for all their needs. How much more would He provide for our needs. As we study the Bible, we learn about the many promises of God and His Son, Jesus, for our provisions, as in our reading today, which speaks of His presence in our lives and His knowledge of what we need and His love in providing for us when the time is right. The more that we read the Scriptures, the more we will learn about our loving Father and how He provides for His Children. We read in the Book of Exodus how God provided food, water, guidance, and protection for the Israelites as they wandered for forty years through the wilderness. We are alive today and that is God’s precious gift to us. In Ephesians 2 : 8 – 10 we read, “For it is by grace, through faith, and this not from yourselves, IT IS A GIFT OF GOD, not by works, so no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Prayer
Lord Jesus, we praise and thank You that You love us and provide for us. Thank you for the lessons we’ve learnt through Your provisions for the birds in the air and the wildflowers in the fields. Through Your love and provision for us, we are enabled to love others. In the Name of Jesus. Amen
