I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. Genesis 12: 2
READING: Genesis 12: 1-9
Life is a journey. Each time another January greets us, we have an opportunity to pause, to see where we have been, to note how far we have come, and to consider how the journey has been. At the beginning of the new year, we need to refresh our dreams and our commitments. Our Christian life is to be lived worthy of the calling to which we have been called. Our calling is not something we chose but something we were called to by God. We have been blessed in every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus. We are chosen to be holy and made heirs and children of God. We have been made alive in Christ, raised with Christ, and seated with Christ in the heavenly realms. (Faith for Daily Living)
Scripture describes many journeys of those called by God. we will look at a few well-known ones. (1)There is the journey that Sarah and Abraham travelled in faith to a new country. They trusted even in their old age, in God’s calling as we see in our reading for today. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a bless.” (verse 2). They were blessed with a son in their old age in the new country. (Genisis 18 : 10). (2) The journey of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem, the town of David, to register for the census called by the Governor Quirinius. Mary was heavily pregnant with the baby Jesus and was about to give birth. (Luke 2 : 1 – 7). (3) The journey of the Wisemen, following a Star by faith from a foreign land to Bethlehem in Judea, to worship the king of the Jews. (Matthew 2 : 1 – 12). (4) The road that the prodigal son took from a foreign land racked with famine and where he had spent everything that his father had given him, back home to his father, returning to the one place where he had always known love. (Luke 15 : 13 – 19)

Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the journeys we have been on, during the last year and for Your gracious presence with us. We pray that You will lead us along the roads You wish us to travel during this year. Deepen our faith to see all of life through Your eyes, as we travel along the roads of life. May our lives be worthy of Your calling. Amen
