But they that delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.  They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit in each season.  Their leaves do not wither, and they prosper in all they do.  Psalm 1: 2-3

One of the instructions which occurs many times throughout the Bible, the Word of God, is that we should read, study, and obey His Word.  The Scripture is made up of the many messages which were given by God to His appointed people, the Prophets, and Apostles, and later through Jesus His Son.

When Daniel was appointed for a task of sharing God’s Message, God said to him, “First I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth.” Daniel 10 : 21.

Jesus Himself, often referred to the Scriptures, which is what we now call the Old Testament.  In Luke 4 : 21, when He had been reading in the Temple from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, He said to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”  In Matthew 21 : 42 He referred to a prophesy about Himself, He spoke of the stone that the builders had rejected.  Paul in the first letter to the Corinthians : 15 :3 – 4  says, “What I received, I passed on to You.” 

We constantly hear shocking news through the various media, to the point that we begin to wonder if there is any good news.   But as we read in His Word, about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, we learn that there certainly is Good News.

Scripture teaches, encourages, and admonishes us so as to build us up into the fellowship of Jesus.  Jesus often speaks directly to us, at a particular time, while we are read the Bible.  Jesus, as the Son of God showed us by the example of His life, how we should live our lives for Him and how we should interact with our fellow men and women.  He died for our salvation and rose from the dead, and this IS the Good News.  

Psalm 1 : 3 tells us that when we study His Word, we will be like a tree planted on the riverbank, where we will be nourished and will grow and bear fruit, and that the love for God will not wither within us, but we will prosper as children of our Father God.

Prayer

Father God, help us to really read and study Your Word and so learn to follow Your teaching and become Your eyes, hands, and feet as we witness to others the Good News of Your great love for us.  Strengthen and guide us so that we may be both doers and proclaimers of Your Word as we follow Your will for our lives and for those with whom we come in contact.  May You be glorified through our lives.  Amen
